Microneedling, also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment. It utilizes an electronic device with numerous fine sterile surgical stainless-steel needles to create thousands of miniscule, unseen channels within the skin's outer layer (epidermis) and the upper part of the deeper layer (dermis).
The effectiveness of microneedling is rooted in the skin's inherent ability to heal. When these tiny perforations are made, the body perceives them as minor injuries and immediately starts a sequence of renewal processes. Here’s a look at what occurs:
ACTIVATES GROWTH SIGNALS
The small wounds trigger the release of various growth factors, such as Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) and Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF). These substances are vital for cell multiplication, movement, and specialization, all necessary for repairing tissue.
BOOSTS COLLAGEN & ELASTIN
A primary objective of microneedling is to encourage the production of collagen and elastin. Collagen is the skin's main structural protein, providing strength and firmness, while elastin allows the skin to stretch and return to its shape. The micro-injuries signal the skin's collagen and elastin-producing cells, called fibroblasts, to increase their activity. Over time, this results in the formation of new collagen and elastin fibers, leading to skin that is thicker, smoother, and appears more youthful.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING TREATMENT
THE MICRONEEDLING PROCESS EXPLAINED
When you arrive for your microneedling treatment, your service provider will first review your consultation form to address any questions you may have and discuss the results you're hoping to achieve with microneedling or other skin rejuvenation treatments. This allows us to tailor the treatment specifically to your needs. We will then take "before" photos, which are kept confidential and used solely to establish a baseline for tracking your progress and comparing your before and after results.
Next, you will be escorted to the treatment room where your skin will be thoroughly cleansed, and a strong topical numbing cream will be applied. While the numbing cream takes effect (approximately 20 minutes), your medical esthetician will explain what you can expect during and after the treatment, describe what it might feel like, and provide detailed instructions on how to care for your skin. You will also receive guidance on how to use the post-treatment microneedling skincare kit that we will provide.
Once you are sufficiently numb, the numbing cream will be removed, and your face will be thoroughly sanitized. The microneedling treatment itself typically takes 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the specific skin concerns being addressed. During the treatment you will feel slight pressure from the microneedling pen but there will be minimal to no pain during the treatment due to the strong numbing agent.
After the microneedling is complete, we will gently wipe away any excess product with sterile water and then rehydrate your skin by applying sterile hyaluronic acid to promote healing and hydration.
Finally, you will receive your post-treatment skincare kit along with a printed copy of aftercare instructions and our contact information should you have any questions or concerns after you leave. We believe in being thorough with our clients to ensure comfort and alleviate any potential anxiety.
PRE-TREATMENT GUIDELINES
HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR TREATMENT
PREPARING FOR YOUR MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT

Please ensure you fill out your Microneedling Client Consultation Form a couple of days before your appointment. This allows us to pre-screen you for any contraindications and contact you if needed with preparation instructions or special advice.

Avoid waxing, threading, or other hair removal treatments on the treatment area for at least one week prior.
-
Avoid other skin rejuvenation procedures such as chemical peels, laser hair removal, and other laser or energy based skin rejuvenation treatments at least three weeks prior to your appointment.

Stop using active or strong skincare products, including strong exfoliants, at-home chemical peels, or skincare containing AHAs, BHAs, or retinols, at least 3 days before your treatment. Focus on moisturizing and hydrating your skin.

Drink lots of water, as well-hydrated skin heals best and responds better to the treatment.

Arrive with clean skin on the day of your treatment. Ensure your skin is free of makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or other topical products.

If you suffer from cold sores, it is recommended that you take a prescription oral antiviral like Valtrex. If you feel a cold sore coming on, you will need to reschedule your appointment.
HEALING & RECOVERY
WHAT TO EXPECT & POST-TREATMENT EXPERIENCE
Here's what you can typically expect after your microneedling session:
Day 1 (Immediately After Treatment):
Your face will likely be quite pink. As the numbing wears off, your skin might feel tight and a little warm. The sensation is often described as feeling like a very mild sunburn, but it is not uncomfortable, and there will be no pain.
Day 1 (End of Treatment Day):
By the end of the day of your treatment, most of the redness or pinkness should subside. Your skin might feel a little tight and dry and could have a slight texture to it. Again, there will be no discomfort.
Day 2 (The Next Day):
On the day after your microneedling treatment, your skin might still feel a little tight and dry. You may notice some mild texture, and it might still have a slight pinkness. You may also see a few tiny pink or light purple dots which is normal. Despite this, your skin will likely start to look radiant. Continue to use the skincare ingredients in your post-treatment kit to help rehydrate and soothe your face.
Day 3:
By the third day after your microneedling treatment, most, if not all, pinkness should be gone, and you will be able to wear makeup again. Your skin might still feel a little dry, so continue applying the serums and moisturizer from your skincare kit as needed. If any residual pinkness remains, it should be easily covered with makeup. We recommend using mineral makeup to help prevent pore clogging.
Days 4 to 7:
By day four, and certainly by day seven, your skin will typically be completely healed. Any texture will be gone, and no redness should remain. Even for those with more sensitive skin types, your skin will look radiant and gorgeous. At this point, you can usually resume your regular skincare routine. Please remember to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher for the 14 days following your treatment. It is also recommended to wait 10 days post-treatment before exfoliating.
