Frequently Asked Questions

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal delivers permanent hair removal results and is the most effective hair removal treatment in comparison to alternative methods such as plucking, waxing, threading, or shaving that require up keep.

IPL energy-based hair removal works by using a broadband beam of light that travels through the skin to target and destroy the melanin (pigment) in hair follicles. The hair follicles heat up and are energetically destroyed resulting in permanent hair removal and prevention of any future hair growth whilst protecting the surrounding skin.

What are the Benefits of Laser Hair Removal?

  • Exceptional 5-degree cooling system to manage discomfort and provides a quick and efficient treatment time

  • IPL laser gold standard wavelength for optimal results

  • Large hand piece spot size to target all unwanted hair effectively as well as a smaller hand piece to target smaller and specific areas only.

  • Removes coarse hair and folliculitis (stubborn ingrown hairs)

  • Smooth and healthy skin results

Is Laser Hair Removal Painfull?

With our state-of-the-art diode laser technology, you can expect treatments to be quick, convenient, and virtually painless due to a built-in zimmer cooling safeguard to guarantee that you will be comfortable throughout the treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

On average 5 to 8 sessions are required to achieve 100% reduction. Treatments are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to target all hair in its anagen (growing) phase, which is the necessary stage the hair needs to be in for optimal results.

At any given time, our hair is in different stages of growth and about 20-40% of it is in an anagen phase therefore treatments are to be spaced out to ensure all hair follicles are being disabled.

You can expect about a 20% reduction after your initial treatment and after every following treatment, you will notice the hair that was treated will grow slower over time. An annual maintaince session is typical for most individuals and characteristics such as hair color/type, skin tone/type, as well as the desired area you wish to treat are all factors that determine how many sessions will be needed to achieve your desired results.

Where on the body can I receive laser hair removal?

Regardless of sex, laser hair removal can successfully remove all unwanted hair to the face and body. Areas such as the sideburns and chin may be treated, as well as the chest, back, under arms, bikini, buttocks, anal stomach, and legs.

Am I a candidate for laser hair removal?

The best candidates for laser hair removal have darker hair with a lighter skin tone. Individuals with white, red, blonde, or grey hair tend to respond poorly or not at all. Therefore, this treatment is optimal for Fitzpatrick (skin types) I,II, and III. Because the pigment in the hair is the chromophore (intended target), any extra pigment in the skin will divert the energy away.

Individuals who have darker skin types IV, V, and VI may not be suitable candidates for laser hair removal and will require extra precaution and expertise from our nurses to protect your skin. A 24–72 hour patch test in the area desired to be treated may be required. Combination or alternative therapies may be discussed in a consultation to suit what would be best for you.
