HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR TREATMENT

PREPARING FOR YOUR CHEMICAL PEEL TREATMENT

• Please ensure you fill out your Chemical Peel Client Consultation Form a couple of days before your appointment. This allows us to pre-screen you for any contraindications and contact you if needed with preparation instructions or special advice.

• Avoid waxing, threading, or other hair removal treatments on the treatment area for at least one week prior.

• Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds to prevent irritation or risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

• Avoid other skin rejuvenation procedures such as microneedling, laser hair removal, and other laser or energy based skin rejuvenation treatments at least three weeks prior to your appointment.

• Stop using active or strong skincare products, including strong exfoliants, at-home chemical peels, or skincare containing AHAs, BHAs, or retinols, at least 3 days before your treatment. Focus on moisturizing and hydrating your skin.

• Drink lots of water, as well-hydrated skin heals best and responds better to the treatment.

• Arrive with clean skin on the day of your treatment. Ensure your skin is free of makeup, lotion, sunscreen, or other topical products.

• If you suffer from cold sores, it is recommended that you take a prescription oral antiviral like Valtrex. If you feel a cold sore coming on, you will need to reschedule your appointment.

HEALING & RECOVERY

WHAT TO EXPECT & POST-TREATMENT EXPERIENCE 

Here's what you can typically expect after your chemical peel session:

Day 1 (Day of Treatment):

Your face may feel tight, slightly red or shiny. Mild tingling or warmth is normal and the peel is left on ideally overnight or at least for 6+ hours. 

Day 2 (The Next Day):

On the day after your chemical peel treatment, your skin might still feel a little tight, dry or slightly darker in tone which is normal. No visible peeling yet, but the peeling is working underneath the surface. You'll cleanse your skin for the first time in the morning followed by the post-care instructions provided by your medical aesthetician.

Day 3 to 5:

By the third day you'll notice visible peeling, typically around the mouth, nose and chin first then spreads outwards. The skin peels in thin sheets or flakes, do not pick, pull or scratch the skin to avoid scarring or hyperpigmentation. After cleansing you can now use the moisturizer in the post-treatment kit which will help soothe and protect your skin, while applying the moisturizer and or sunscreen it is completely normal for your skin to feel a burning sensation or irritated as the peel has disrupted your moisture barrier causing anything you apply on your skin as it healings to burn. Continue applying the products in the post-treatment kit to ensure the best results. 

Days 6 to 8:

By day six, and certainly by day seven, most of the peeling is complete. Your new skin looks brighter, smoother and more even - some areas may still flake or appear dry but keep moisturizing, you can start exercising and wearing makeup. Day eight and onwards your skin continues to heal and regenerate beneath the surface. You can return to your regular skincare routine please remember to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher following your treatment. It is also recommended to wait 10 days post-treatment before exfoliating.

WHAT TO EXPECT 

THE MICRONEEDLING PROCESS EXPLAINED

When you arrive for your microneedling treatment, your service provider will first review your consultation form to address any questions you may have and discuss the results you're hoping to achieve with microneedling or other skin rejuvenation treatments. This allows us to tailor the treatment specifically to your needs. We will then take "before" photos, which are kept confidential and used solely to establish a baseline for tracking your progress and comparing your before and after results.

Next, you will be escorted to the treatment room where your skin will be thoroughly cleansed, and a strong topical numbing cream will be applied. While the numbing cream takes effect (approximately 20 minutes), your medical esthetician will explain what you can expect during and after the treatment, describe what it might feel like, and provide detailed instructions on how to care for your skin. You will also receive guidance on how to use the post-treatment microneedling skincare kit that we will provide.

Once you are sufficiently numb, the numbing cream will be removed, and your face will be thoroughly sanitized. The microneedling treatment itself typically takes 20 to 30 minutes, depending on the specific skin concerns being addressed. During the treatment you will feel slight pressure from the microneedling pen but there will be minimal to no pain during the treatment due to the strong numbing agent.

After the microneedling is complete, we will gently wipe away any excess product with sterile water and then rehydrate your skin by applying sterile hyaluronic acid to promote healing and hydration.

Finally, you will receive your post-treatment skincare kit along with a printed copy of aftercare instructions and our contact information should you have any questions or concerns after you leave. We believe in being thorough with our clients to ensure comfort and alleviate any potential anxiety.
